Windows for El Campello, between the beach and the tram
El Campello is a long, narrow strip between the sea and the tram line. Most homes need two things from a window: hardware that stands salt, and glass that lowers the tram’s rhythmic noise. Muchavista: blocks on the sand
Muchavista is almost a continuation of San Juan beach. Its blocks from the 1970s and 1980s stand right on the sand. Each flat has a long terrace facing the sea and an aluminium slider across its full width.
That is the typical home, and the typical job too: the terrace slider plus the two or three bedroom windows on the same side.
North of the town, Coveta Fumà and Pueblo Acantilado sit on the cliffs. Homes there are more often villas and terraced houses, exposed to wind from the open sea.
Salt within 100 metres of the shore
Less than 100 metres from the water, untreated hardware starts to stiffen within a few years. On a heavy slider that means a panel that stops halfway. The uPVC survives; untreated screws and hardware do not.

The tram: a noise with a precise fix
TRAM d’Alacant lines 1 and 3 run through El Campello along the coast, with stops at Muchavista and Les Llances. In homes near the track the noise is rhythmic and predictable. Over time it tires people more than traffic does.
The fix is specific: asymmetric laminated acoustic glass and a fully sealed perimeter. A wider air gap does not lower that noise. The interlayer inside the laminated pane does, together with a tight seal around the frame.
What we recommend in El Campello
Our default is the Kömmerling Xtrem 76MD. Its glass rebate takes units up to 50 mm thick, enough for the acoustic glass the tram calls for. Its central gasket keeps the seal on a façade that meets the sea wind head-on.
We seal only when the opening is dry, never in the early-morning damp. A seal that has not cured is exactly where water gets in during the first storm. We also grease the hardware before handover, not a year later. The uPVC windows page covers the glass options.

Short trips from the UK
El Campello is close to Alicante airport, so a long weekend is enough to be present for the survey. With the 90/180 rule counting every day, a short trip helps. The fitting can then happen with a key-holder while you are back home.

What windows suit a seafront flat in El Campello with salt spray and strong sun?
A uPVC profile with a central gasket, treated hardware and solar control glass on the sunny side. The frame copes with salt; the hardware needs the treatment.
Will new windows stop the tram noise?
They reduce it a great deal if the glass is laminated acoustic and the perimeter is sealed. No window removes it completely, and we will not promise that.
My slider in Muchavista stops halfway. Can it be repaired?
Sometimes the rollers and hardware can be replaced. On an old aluminium slider with no thermal break, we usually advise a new door.
Why do you avoid sealing early in the morning?
Sea damp settles on the wall overnight. Sealant applied to a damp surface does not cure properly and fails in the first heavy rain.
I fly in for weekends. Can the survey be done in one short visit?
Yes. The survey takes place in your home and needs someone there once. The fitting can follow with a key-holder.
